Labyrinths and Effigies

Healing our relationship with our landscape is part of mending our bond with nature.

In the words of Paul Cezanne, “The landscape thinks itself in me and I am its consciousness.”

According to the latest pan-animist approach to science, living organisms are bundled within one another, like nesting “matryoshka dolls.” From particles to universes, through animal and plant bodies, biospheres and planets, every system possesses some kind of consciousness.

Land and site specific art is an attempt to communion with those other layers of reality. Labyrinths are some of the most ancient kinds of sacred structures created by humans.

Walking a labyrinth is a meditative experience, a ritual of entering our inner sanctum and reemerging with wisdom to share.

I've been fascinated by labyrinths for 20 years now, and was the initiator and head designer of the plant Labyrinth in Park Geo Milev, Sofia, Bulgaria. With Uga Buga team, we created other temporary labyrinth structures, most notably in Spain in 2007.

I also designed a number of recycled art talismans for different events, including Morocco (near Agadir) 2005, Bulgaria (near Batak) 2004 and various events and exhibitions. The effigies were purposely created as spells to protect the area.

With the Uga Buga team, we also carried out decorations for various electronic music festivals and other events.

It is my dream to continue creating immersive labyrinth installations in the future. I welcome commissions and collaborations – let's connect.
