“I love the sensitive roughness of Yagama's art so much. It's cool, it’s lovely, it’s untamed, it’s special, it’s hopeful, it’s wise...
Great art that makes the world a better place.”
- Jürgen Kretschmann
My periods used to be so painful, I'd bang my head on the wall just to distract from the sensation of being gnawed on from the inside.
I cultivated a hatred for my female body as I grew up. Within, the cramps were always looming. Outside, lurid catcalls echoed in dark alleys and dangers lurked everywhere. The prospects of adulthood seemed to be all about the requirements of sex appeal and the shame thereof, in equal measures.
So I rebelled against patriarchy and the ignorance it breeds. My rebellion was pretty self destructive. I suspected motherhood would be hell's lowest circle, so I swore I'd never birth a child. The pain didn't go away, and neither did the internalized self hate. Menstruation and hormones were a strict taboo back then, so there was nobody to talk to.
The pain itself became my teacher.
One day writhing on my bed in agony, I felt a stab in my uterus so profound that it took “me” away. My mind was clear, pristine, free. I still experienced the pain but I was no longer attached to identifying with it. I knew I was on to something.
Years later, in my bathtub, bleeding, I experienced bliss. I wished I'd known periods could be like this when I was younger. I felt the importance of sharing my story about how I learned to love my body, and the profound healing that came with.
The Fanged Flower, the “vagina dentata,” was at the center of my journey. Discovering this powerful symbol broke down the castles of ideas I'd built about what it means to be a woman and a human. The paradox it presents – the softness of the lips, the sharpness of the teeth – took me beyond what I thought my supposed “self” was. It showed me a path of embracing all sides of my oceanic nature. I could now see myself as an expression of Nature Herself, known as the Goddess in many of the traditions I love. Worshipping the Divine Feminine in this form through art has rewarded me immeasurably in all areas of life.
I close my eyes and whisper butterflies
to clothe you with the finest feathers
of my true love...
The Fanged Flowers are painted mixing traditional iconography techniques and new materials. I painted them over repurposed wood and applied handmade gesso. I painstakingly mixed the paint myself, using pigment and egg-yolk. I've also used gilding for that metallic gold and silver effect, and finally covered the icons in layers of varnish. The whole process is laborious and takes a long time.
"We are overjoyed by this incredible work of art.
The love and blessings and colors and light and magic we feel from this creation is so deeply uplifting and fill us both with emotion and warm
fluffy happiness! The care and energy you've put into this work – wow! We're blessed to have this artwork to celebrate our marriage.”

- What's the Fanged Flowers story?
Like many women and girls, I had a rough time inhabiting my body. I had no idea how to handle the hormonal cycles, social pressures and outright dangers. Until I discovered the right tools to face those challenges through meditation and creativity. The Fanged Flowers collection is an expression of the healing power of art. They are icons to the fierce and cheeky divine spark within each of us. They empowered me to transition confidently to new stages in my life and remind me of the sacredness of the body I inhabit, all experiences I go through, and all life I encounter.
Each Fanged Flower is a power icon with a distinct energy. Schedule a call to discover the right one for you!
- What does the fanged flower symbolize?
I use the ancient toothed vulva symbol as a wayto reclaim our power as embodiments of the universal consciousness. Our essence resides beyond definitions of soft and hard, active and passive, good and bad. Healing comes through facing our fears and transmuting them.
What kind of technique / material is it?
Recycled wood and woodchip board, layered with a self-made gesso on top of muslin cloth as the base, painted with egg-tempera ( a mixture of egg and pure pigment), gilding with thing sheets of metal, and varnish on top. I used a mixture of old and new iconography techniques.
- What if I don't like it in person?
I've taken a lot of photos, from the entire picture to details, to make sure you know what to expect. Please check out the pictures and videos. I will also be happy to show you the icons during our live call.
Real life icons tend to have more depth and shine than photos of them because of the luminescent qualities of the materials.
Since they have a lot of reflective surfaces, they will look different from different angles. That's part of the beauty of this handcrafted art
- How about exchanges and returns?
I'm a solo mom running an independent art business, so my time and resources are limited. Please respect that I am unable to make exchanges and returns on a whim. I guarantee you'll be happy with the icon you've picked.
-What about shipping and handling?
It will be done by a professional company and it's free for you. The art will be insured just in case. We will go over the details in our private call.
"This is a movingly beautiful piece! Isis is such an important energy for me and through your work I now see it as I have always felt it. Congratulations!"
