yagama: VJ

When I was a child, I imagined painting music. I discovered the joys of VJ-ing in 2007. My first ever VJ gig was an 8 hour long night at Earthdance '07 Festival near Sofia, after days of setting up all the decorations, and despite all the tiredness and bustle surrounding the event, I fell in love with VJ-aying! Creating fleeting momentary worlds, rolling through associations, mashing up meanings and images or getting a clear point across, doing background light patterns or live feeds - I love it ! Parties are so much better with live visuals, and many other types of events - corporate, cocktails, openings, can benefit much more besides the aesthetic pleasure from live video.
Most of the video material is I use for a VJ set is my own, but I am also happy to do shows incorporating other footage and graphics reflecting the client's corporate identity and mission statement.
I work in collaboration with other live video artists, musicians, set designers and performers, on a/v projects, theatre, film and other events.
I have played as a vj along jazz, rock, hiphop and ethnic musicians, at techno, trance, drum and base and house parties, at festivals and other events. I am available!

My videos often start as an analog process - a drawing or photo, stopmotion animation or shot footage, and I transform it digitally using various programs and techniques. Sometimes during a live vj set I manipulate and twist the footage so much it looks nothing like the original, sometimes I leave it almost unchanged. It all depends on the context. Usually I use mostly my own materials, but depending on the event I mix with found thematic footage.

Live cinema, and audiovisual collaborations, are the directions in live video which I am taking. I feel that the sum of different artforms working together to create a synaesthetic performance can lead to more comprehensive and experiential artwork, and this is what I strive towards in my work.
